How to remove condensation between double glazing

We’re often asked by new customers if we can fix the condensation building in their old double glazing installations or how to reseal double glazing. It’s a common problem and an infuriating one for people who have spent a significant amount of money on their windows.

It looks unattractive, and tends to mean that the windows aren’t insulating your home as well as they should be.

Unfortunately, more often than not, double glazing repairs are not easy to do for this kind of issue reliably or effectively. It tends to happen when the original installation was not up to standard, or the sealing has deteriorated (generally after the guarantee has passed).

How does double glazing condensation happen?

The panes in double glazed windows are called sealed units, and they are held apart by tiny silica balls in a spacer bar. They absorb moisture in their air and ensure the glass remains dry.

Once they become saturated, or come loose, moisture gets between the planes and your double glazing becomes fogged.

It generally happens due to wear and tear as the unit ages, but can be exacerbated by changes in temperature, which fluctuate the size of the window. This can loosen and damage the seals.

Some cleaning products can do damage to the seal too. In order to prevent this, make sure any products you use are not chemically abrasive.

This really shouldn’t happen for at least 5 years from the date of installation, if not more. The seal will always break down eventually but the better the installation, the longer it will last.

How do I reseal my double glazing?

There are those out there who will claim it’s possible, and cheaper, to reseal rather than replace.

Unfortunately, this solution doesn’t tend to last. The true fix is a full replacement.

At Britelite, we build our windows to last, as shown by our accreditations and testimonials. Our windows are installed at a high standard, add real value to a property and save on energy. They also come in a range of colours, styles, shapes and sizes for you to choose from.

Even better, they’re guaranteed for 10 years. If the seal fails before then, you’ve got no worries at all.

There’s a reason 95% of our customers are happy to recommend our services – we have earned their trust through quality products and great service.

If you’re in need of an installation that will last longer, give us a call on 0800 50 50 70 to see what we can do for you.  Or head to one of our Double Glazing showrooms in Kent or Surrey to see our range of styles in person.
